Yellow Tonoko – Japanese Mineral Powder for Kintsugi

Yellow Tonoko is a traditional Japanese mineral powder used in kintsugi and Urushi lacquerwork. It is particularly important for preparing Sabi Urushi and for smoothing surfaces before the finishing stages.

Mixed with Urushi lacquer, Tonoko is used to prepare Sabi Urushi, a fine paste that helps fill small irregularities, smooth repaired areas and create an even surface before subsequent layers of lacquer are applied.

Uses:

Preparation of Sabi Urushi
Filling small irregularities and minor imperfections
Smoothing repaired areas
Surface preparation before finishing layers
Traditional kintsugi and Urushi lacquerwork

Versatile and essential, Yellow Tonoko is a fundamental material for the traditional practice of kintsugi with natural Urushi lacquer.
