Tonoko white is a Japanese mineral powder used in traditional kintsugi and urushi lacquer techniques. It is particularly important in surface preparation and in the production of Sabi-Urushi.

In kintsugi, white Tonoko can be used for:

prepare the Sabi-Urushi ;
to fill in small irregularities and certain gaps;
Smooth and prepare the surface before applying the finishing coats.
