Japanese Manga Kintsugi – Uncle Kintsugi (金継ぎおじさん)

Japanese Kintsugi Manga – Discover the Art and Philosophy of Kintsugi

Discover an original Japanese manga dedicated to kintsugi, the traditional art of repairing broken ceramics while highlighting their cracks and history.

In this delicate and poetic story, master craftsman Tsuguo Tsukuroi, nicknamed “Uncle Kintsugi,” lives with his daughter Hoji. Known for his craftsmanship, he repairs broken objects entrusted to him by neighbours and members of the local community.

Each damaged object carries its own story. Through these repairs, the manga invites readers to see imperfections from a different perspective: cracks are not simply flaws to be concealed, but traces of time, use and memory that become part of the object’s beauty.

The book also introduces readers to kintsugi tools and traditional repair techniques, while exploring the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese aesthetic associated with imperfection, simplicity and the passage of time.

Printed in two colours, the book is richly illustrated with manga panels, drawings and photographs of original works.
