Japanese Red Urushi Lacquer for Kintsugi – Honsyu, Aka, Tankuchi, Kikuchi & Be

Red Urushi Lacquer – Japanese Lacquer for Kintsugi & Finishing

Red Japanese Urushi lacquer is used in traditional kintsugi and Japanese lacquerwork to create coloured layers and finishes with rich, luminous tones.

This range is available in several shades of red and orange, allowing you to select the colour according to the desired aesthetic effect:

  • Honsyu – a deep, nuanced red for a warm and understated finish
  • Aka – a bright, vivid red that gives repair lines greater intensity
  • Tankuchi – a warm and vibrant orange-red, adding brightness and character
  • Kikuchi – a particularly luminous orange shade (currently out of stock)
  • Bengara – a deep, earthy red for a more understated and traditional appearance

Used for coloured layers and finishing, red Urushi allows colour itself to become an integral part of the restoration. Suitable for both traditional Japanese kintsugi and contemporary decorative work, it offers an expressive alternative to classic gold, silver and other metallic finishes.

Please note: Colour appearance may vary slightly depending on screen settings, the thickness and number of lacquer layers, the underlying surface and application conditions.

Urushi conservation tips

To preserve the quality of urushi , it is essential to follow a few simple rules:

  • Cool, dark place : store away from direct sunlight, in a temperate location.

  • Shelf life : approximately 1 year. After this period, the lacquer may change color or viscosity.

  • Refrigeration : To extend storage over several years, place in the refrigerator in a separate airtight container, away from food.

By following these recommendations, you will ensure optimal quality urushi for your future projects.
