Komeko – Japanese Rice Flour for Nori Urushi

Komeko is a traditional Japanese rice flour used to prepare nori urushi, an adhesive mixture used in traditional kintsugi and Urushi lacquerwork.

Mixed first with water and then combined with Urushi lacquer, Komeko produces a strong yet flexible adhesive paste, traditionally used for joining broken ceramic pieces and for various Japanese lacquer techniques.

Its properties make it particularly suitable for the bonding stage of traditional kintsugi, before the subsequent filling, smoothing and finishing processes.
