Kokuso Wata – Fibre for Filling & Reinforcing Kintsugi Repairs

Kokuso Wata is used in traditional kintsugi to prepare Kokuso, a filling material for rebuilding deep cracks, chips and larger missing areas. It provides reinforcement and structure before the subsequent smoothing and finishing stages.

Mixed with raw Urushi lacquer and the other ingredients used to prepare Kokuso, the fibres help create a thick, workable paste suitable for reconstructing damaged areas. The mixture should be thoroughly worked with a spatula until an even consistency is obtained.

Particularly useful when a repair requires more substantial filling than Sabi Urushi alone, Kokuso helps rebuild and reinforce damaged areas before the finer stages of the kintsugi process.
