You are not alone when taking on your first Kintsugi repair.

The kit includes a 7-step beginner’s manual, designed to guide you progressively through your first Kintsugi restoration.

Video tutorials complement the manual, allowing you to observe the techniques, preparations and different stages before trying them yourself.

You can progress at your own pace, revisit each step as often as needed, and easily switch between the written instructions and video demonstrations.

The final stage of Kintsugi reveals the repair, transforming the fracture lines into a decorative feature.

The kit includes a gold-coloured brass powder, ideal for learning the technique and practising your first repairs.

For a more precious finish in keeping with the spirit of traditional Kintsugi, you can choose an optional 0.1 g sachet of genuine Keshifun gold powder.

This very fine gold powder is carefully applied over the final layer of Urushi lacquer to highlight and reveal the repaired lines.

The Muro: Essential for Drying Urushi

Urushi lacquer does not dry like conventional paint. Its curing process requires a warm and humid environment.

The kit includes a drying box called a Muro, designed to create the appropriate conditions for the different stages of your Kintsugi restoration.

Depending on the layer applied and the temperature and humidity conditions, Urushi can take time to cure. This waiting period is an integral part of the traditional Kintsugi process.

The Furoshiki – A Reusable Gift Wrap

To make your Kintsugi kit a special gift, you can choose the navy blue furoshiki option.

A furoshiki is a traditional Japanese square of fabric used to wrap, protect and carry objects.

Tied around the box, it transforms the Kintsugi kit into an elegant gift while avoiding single-use gift wrapping.

After opening, the fabric can be kept and reused to wrap another gift, carry an object, or for many other purposes.

Precautions for Use – Urushi Lacquer

Urushi lacquers, made from the sap of the lacquer tree (Toxicodendron vernicifluum), are natural and durable materials that require certain precautions when handling.

Handling & Safety

• Always wear nitrile or vinyl gloves. Fresh Urushi can cause allergic skin reactions, including contact dermatitis.
• Avoid direct contact with bare skin.
• Work in a well-ventilated area, away from food and drinks.

Curing

• Urushi cures through oxidation in a warm and humid environment (approximately 75–80% humidity at 20–25°C).
• Curing time can range from 12 hours to several days, depending on the thickness of the layer and environmental conditions.

Cleaning & Storage

• Clean tools with vegetable oil (camellia, rapeseed, etc.), followed by alcohol or soap.
• Keep the container tightly closed and store it away from heat and direct light.
• Do not allow Urushi lacquer to dry on your tools.

In Case of Skin Contact

• Remove the lacquer promptly with vegetable oil, then wash thoroughly with soap and water.
• If a skin reaction develops or persists, seek medical advice.
