Red Tonoko Yamashina – Japanese Clay for Kintsugi

Red Tonoko Yamashina is a fine traditional Japanese clay powder used in kintsugi and Urushi lacquerwork, particularly for preparing Sabi Urushi. It is used during the filling, levelling and surface-preparation stages before the application of subsequent Urushi layers.

Mixed with water and Ki Urushi, Red Tonoko can be used to prepare Sabi Urushi, a paste suitable for refining repaired areas and creating a smooth, even foundation for the finishing stages.
