Funzutsu sieves are traditional tools used in kintsugi and Japanese lacquerwork for the precise application and distribution of metallic powders, particularly gold and silver, over Urushi lacquer.
Their angled tips allow the metallic powder to be gradually and evenly dispersed over the fresh Urushi surface, providing greater control during the finishing stages of traditional kintsugi.
Two models available:
- Aluminum Funzutsu #250 – designed for fine, precise and controlled distribution of metallic powders
- Bamboo Funzutsu #120 – suitable for broader powder application while maintaining good control
- Bamboo naturally helps reduce the effects of static electricity when handling fine powders
- Both models are suitable for precise finishing work in traditional kintsugi
These Funzutsu sieves provide excellent control over the quantity and distribution of metallic powders during Urushi finishing. Depending on the model selected, they are suitable for both delicate detail work and application over larger areas.
