Hinoki and Bamboo Spatulas for Kintsugi – Japanese Tradition

In the traditional practice of Kintsugi , wooden tools are valued for their simplicity, flexibility, and the precision they offer. Hinoki and bamboo spatulas are used throughout the various stages of preparing and applying urushi lacquer.

Hinoki spatula

Made from Hinoki, Japanese cypress , this flexible spatula is particularly suited to preparing urushi-based mixtures. It allows you to work the lacquer with flour, rice flour, Tonoko or Jinoko , especially for making mugi urushi and sabi urushi .

Its flexibility facilitates the mixing of materials and allows for gradual adjustment of the texture.

Bamboo spatula

The bamboo spatula is intended for the precise application of mugi urushi and sabi urushi on cracks, chips and areas to be repaired.

Its fine shape and rounded tip offer good control of the material and allow for precise work on ceramics.

Natural tools for traditional Kintsugi

Hinoki and bamboo offer a pleasant feel with the material and naturally complement the movements of traditional Kintsugi . With use, these wooden tools evolve and develop a patina, gradually bearing witness to the craftsman's work.
