Mawata Silk – 100% Natural Silk for Kintsugi
Mawata is a traditional 100% natural silk material used in kintsugi and Japanese lacquerwork.
Its exceptionally fine and soft fibres make it particularly suitable for polishing, cleaning and applying metallic powders such as gold and silver. Compared with ordinary cotton, Mawata offers greater fineness and helps achieve precise, delicate finishes without damaging the surface.
Each sheet is made from silkworm cocoons and can be divided into approximately 6 to 8 small balls, making it convenient for use throughout the different finishing stages of kintsugi.
