Brushes used with urushi lacquer should never be washed with water.

Prepare a new brush before use

New Kintsugi brushes are often stiffened with a protective glue. To make them ready for use:
• Rinse the bristles with warm water to remove the glue.

Why clean a Kintsugi brush after each use?

It is essential to clean the brushes immediately after use, as the lacquer can dry and harden, rendering the brush unusable.

An effective method for cleaning a paintbrush

• 1. Choose a suitable solvent: Pour a small amount of turpentine or, ideally, orange peel oil (less odorous and very effective) into a small dish or onto a glass plate.
• 2. Clean gently: Using a fingernail, a wooden spatula, or a resin stick, make a gentle motion from the base of the bristles to their tips. Do not touch the tips directly.
• 3. Repeat: Continue until the hairspray is completely removed and the hair returns to its original color.

Finishing touches for a perfect clean

• Carefully wipe the base of the bristles with a clean tissue to remove any remaining residue.

Additional tips for brush care

• This method is suitable for brushes, Kintsugi, flat brushes and substitute brushes .
• If your brushes have been coated with vegetable oil, remember to clean them before each new use.
