Keyaki Wood Powder – Japanese Zelkova for Kokuso Urushi
Keyaki, or Japanese Zelkova, is a finely ground wood powder traditionally used in kintsugi to prepare Kokuso Urushi.
Kokuso Urushi is a thick, strong filling compound particularly suitable for filling larger gaps, rebuilding missing areas and restoring chipped ceramics. It is one of the essential preparations used in traditional kintsugi, alongside Mugi Urushi and Sabi Urushi.
Mixed with Ki Urushi and other traditional ingredients, Keyaki provides the body and consistency required to create strong, workable repairs before the smoothing and finishing stages.
Traditional ingredients used to prepare Kokuso Urushi:
Flour or rice-based paste
Water
Ki Urushi
Keyaki (Japanese Zelkova wood powder)
An essential material for practitioners wishing to work with traditional Japanese kintsugi techniques using natural Urushi lacquer.
