Land of Jinoko Wajima – Grade Yonhenji (No. 4)

Wajima Jinoko – Traditional Japanese Earth for Kintsugi – Yonhenji Grade

Wajima Jinoko, also known as ji-no-ko, is a traditional Japanese mineral powder used as a base and filling material in kintsugi and Urushi lacquerwork.

It is made from diatomaceous mudstone, a naturally occurring material formed from fossilised diatoms, which is traditionally processed and fired to produce Jinoko.

In Wajima, Jinoko is classified into four grades according to particle size:

  • Ippenji (1)

  • Nihenji (2)

  • Sanbenji (3)

  • Yonhenji (4) – the finest grade, offered here

The Yonhenji grade, with its particularly fine particle size, is ideal for the final filling and smoothing stages. It helps create a fine, even surface before the subsequent layers of Urushi lacquer are applied.

An essential traditional material for precise ceramic restoration and refined kintsugi finishing.
