This round jar (丸壷) in white Baekja porcelain, in the Joseon tradition, is signed An Dong-o (安東五), designated in 1989 holder of intangible cultural heritage no. 5 of Gyeonggi province (京畿道無形文化財5号).
Comes with its original wooden box (tomobako) bearing his signature and stamp.
The crack running through this jar was repaired with urushi lacquer and 24-karat gold, using the Japanese kintsugi technique. Far from concealing the damage, the gold line now highlights the purity of the white porcelain and tells a second story to the broken, then sublimated, object.
