Hōh-Zumi is a traditional Japanese charcoal used for polishing Urushi lacquer. It is particularly suited to the preparatory stages of polishing, helping to progressively smooth and refine the lacquered surface before moving on to finer polishing stages.
Its gentle abrasive action helps remove small irregularities and even out the surface, preparing the Urushi for subsequent finishing and polishing processes. Hōh-Zumi is especially suitable for traditional kintsugi and Japanese lacquerwork requiring precise and controlled surface preparation.
