Precautions for use – Urushi lacquers

Urushi lacquers, derived from the sap of the lacquer tree ( Toxicodendron vernicifluum ), are natural and durable but require certain precautions. Handling and safety

Always wear gloves (nitrile or vinyl): fresh urushi can cause allergic reactions (eczema).
Do not handle with bare hands.
Work in a well-ventilated area, away from food and drinks.

Drying

Urushi dries by oxidation under humidity (75–80% / 20–25°C).
Drying time: from 12 hours to several days depending on the thickness and conditions.

Cleaning and storage

Clean the tools with vegetable oil (camellia, rapeseed…), then with alcohol or soap.
Keep the tube tightly closed, away from heat and light.
Do not allow the lacquer to dry on the tools.
