This Japanese wooden bowl is made from Keyaki (Japanese zelkova) and supplied unfinished, ready to be completed using the traditional Fuki Urushi technique.
Keyaki is a Japanese wood valued for its strength, durability and distinctive natural grain. Applying natural Urushi lacquer using the Fuki Urushi method gradually enhances the grain, fibres and subtle variations of the wood while preserving its warm, natural character.
Designed as an authentic Japanese DIY project, this bowl allows you to carry out the different stages of Urushi finishing yourself and create a unique piece combining Japanese woodworking and traditional lacquer techniques.
Once the appropriate Urushi layers have been applied and fully cured according to traditional methods, the finished bowl can be used according to its intended purpose.
