Mitsuo Tanimoto tea caddy, enhanced with 23.44k gold kintsugi
€320.00
This antique Iga stoneware tea chair (茶入), signed by Mitsuo Tanimoto, had a crack on the neck which Didier Faillères, a kintsugi craftsman, repaired with 24k gold powder using traditional Japanese techniques. Presented in its original wooden tomobako box and silk pouch, this complete set combines the authenticity of an antique tea ceremony utensil with the hallmark of a unique kintsugi repair.

Mitsuo Tanimoto
Born in Ueno (Mie Prefecture) in 1916, he initially pursued Western-style painting (studies from 1934). After an exhibition on ancient Iga ceramics at the Hankyu department store in Osaka, he abandoned painting to dedicate himself to this ceramic art.
In 1948, he took up Raku pottery, alongside Komori and Sakuzo Hineno. In 1955, he built a kiln in Sanda (Ueno) and devoted himself entirely to the ancient ceramics of Iga, breaking away from group and public exhibitions.
He then exhibited abstract ceramic works in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, and worked with his sons Kei and Hiroshi.
