Hon-Kuro lacquer (本黒漆) is a high-quality black urushi , naturally pigmented with iron oxide . It is used as a topcoat or for contrasting details in Kintsugi repairs, lacquered objects, or decorative inlays.
Special feature: The designation “ Hon ” (本) means “authentic” or “genuine”, indicating a superior quality lacquer.
Use in Kintsugi:
Hon-Kuro is ideal for covering joints repaired with gold or silver, or for highlighting kintsugi lines with a deep, refined black. It can also be used for contrasting decorative touches or in combination with metallic powders (kin, gin, shippaku, etc.).
