Ashirai Kebo Brush for Kintsugi
Ashirai Kebo brushes are traditional Japanese brushes used for kintsugi finishing , particularly when applying metallic powders.
Made from finely frayed natural hairs , they allow for the precise manipulation of gold or silver powder , particularly of the keshifun type. They are used during the final stage of kintsugi, when the lacquered surface is delicately sprinkled with metallic powder.
Their fineness allows for precise and even application, essential for achieving a neat kintsugi finish while limiting the loss of gold powder.
Two sizes are available:
- Size S – Ashirai: for collecting and delicately applying gold or silver powder to lacquer.
- Size M – Harai: to gently remove excess metallic powder after application on the repaired ceramic.
They are specially designed to handle gold or silver powder ( keshifun type) and are used in the final phase, uwa-nuri, where the lacquered surface receives its finishing layer before the application of the metallic powder.
