€39.90
Kuro Roiro Urushi is a traditional Japanese black lacquer used as an intermediate layer in the practice of kintsugi .
It is applied after Mugi Urushi or Sabi Urushi in order to even out the surface, correct small irregularities and prepare a smooth base before the finishing stages.
Role in kintsugi
This intermediate layer allows for a regular surface before the application of a finishing lacquer, such as Bengara Urushi , or before the application of metallic powders such as gold or silver .
Main functions:
- Surface smoothing after the filling and repair stages
- Preparing the finish before the final layers of urushi lacquer
- Regular base for the application of metallic powders
- Durable finish suitable for traditional Japanese kintsugi techniques
Kuro Roiro Urushi thus constitutes an important step towards achieving clean, regular and durable kintsugi repairs.

Precautions for use – Urushi lacquers
Urushi lacquers, derived from the sap of the lacquer tree ( Toxicodendron vernicifluum ), are natural and durable but require certain precautions.
Handling and safety
Always wear gloves (nitrile or vinyl): fresh urushi can cause allergic reactions (eczema).
Do not handle with bare hands.
Work in a well-ventilated area, away from food and drinks.
Drying
Urushi dries by oxidation under humidity (75–80% / 20–25°C).
Drying time: from 12 hours to several days depending on the thickness and conditions.
Cleaning and storage
Clean the tools with vegetable oil (camellia, rapeseed…), then with alcohol or soap.
Keep the tube tightly closed, away from heat and light.
Do not allow the lacquer to dry on the tools.
In case of contact
Rinse immediately with vegetable oil, then with soapy water.
Consult a healthcare professional if a skin reaction occurs.

Urushi conservation tips
To preserve the quality of urushi , it is essential to follow a few simple rules:
Cool, dark place : store away from direct sunlight, in a temperate location.
Shelf life : approximately 1 year. After this period, the lacquer may change color or viscosity.
Refrigeration : To extend storage over several years, place in the refrigerator in a separate airtight container, away from food.
