GOLD AND SILVER POWDERS FOR KINTSUGI

GOLD POWDER

Gold and silver powder for kintsugi

Each type of gold powder has specific uses in the kintsugi repair process. The artisan selects the most suitable powder depending on the object to be restored and the desired effect. Since kintsugi is a delicate and precise art, the choice of powder plays a crucial role in the quality of the final result. Here are a few types of powder:

Keshi-fun is the finest powder in the range of gold and silver powders.

" Keshi " means " poppy " in Japanese, referring to the extremely small size of the particles, as fine as poppy seeds.

Hiragoku-fun is the finest of the so-called "filed" powders.

" Hira " means " flat " in Japanese, indicating that the particles of this powder are relatively flat.

Maru-fun is the basic powder used in kintsugi lacquer work.

" Maru " means " round" in Japanese, suggesting that the particles of this powder are rounded.

Besides gold, other basic or precious metals can be used in kintsugi to create various effects, including blue gold or platinum, tin, brass, bronze and many others.

KESHIFUN

This is the finest powder (0.2 ~ 0.3 μ *) in the range of gold and silver powders. It is made from finely divided gold or silver leaves.

Ideal for first-time use with precious metals. Note that it is important not to polish this powder, as this could alter its appearance and finish. The alternative to polishing in this case is the tool Taiki, which will have the effect of making the surface shine.

KURO URUSHI

In the Kintsugi process, Kuro Urushi black lacquer is used as an intermediate lacquer.

After the sabi urushi mixture has been dried and carefully sanded, kuro urushi is applied at least twice over this rough layer. After each application, the surface is sanded to a smooth finish. Kuro Urushi is a black lacquer that gives the repaired part an elegant and uniform appearance.
