You have already been introduced to urushi kintsugi and want to deepen your mastery of this traditional Japanese art?

In his workshop in Bordeaux, Didier Faillères offers you a masterclass in urushi kintsugi, specially designed for those who already have some experience with Japanese lacquer or who have taken an introductory course.

This advanced training allows you to progress in a demanding and caring environment , where rigor, precision and attention to detail accompany each gesture. You will explore the complex techniques of traditional kintsugi based on natural urushi , from managing multiple repairs to the most subtle finishes.

The work is carried out on your own pieces or on objects provided by the workshop. The emphasis is placed on autonomy , mastery of materials and adaptation of gestures. to the specificities of each repair.

The number of participants is deliberately limited in order to guarantee personalized support , in an atmosphere that is both studious and warm.

What you will learn during the masterclass

During this intensive training, you will have the opportunity to:

perfect your technical skills and gain in precision,

correct errors or approximations from your initial learning,

work on complex parts , including:

multiple breaks,

missing elements,

or the use of advanced techniques such as Yobitsugi (insertion of foreign fragments),

experiment with different methods of applying gold , notably with powders such as Keshifun (flat powder),

refine your understanding of the rhythm of working with urushi , including:

the organization of the steps according to the nature of the lacquers (kuro urushi, ki urushi, e urushi),

adapting gestures to drying times ,

the acquisition of a good reading of the wall drying time , essential for successful polymerization and durable finishes.

This masterclass aims to teach you the professional reflexes and the precision of the gestures necessary for the development of a personal or artistic practice that is rigorous, coherent and respectful of the spirit of kintsugi urushi.

Proposed formula

→ In a group : from Friday * to Thursday (excluding weekends), see dates.

Why start on Friday?

The Friday start allows the first technical steps (preparations, application of urushi) to be tackled before the weekend break. This rest time is ideal for ensuring optimal drying at the muro . Thus, from Monday, the pieces are ready to be reworked, guaranteeing a progressive, fluid learning process adapted to the constraints of natural urushi lacquer.

→ In personalized support : dates to be agreed upon together over a period of three months, depending on your availability. The course can take place over five consecutive days or be spread over a period of three months, starting on the day that suits you best .
